EU's Parliament plays crucial role

Regina O'Connor correctly points out that EU powers to legislate do not "fall from the desk of faceless Brussels bureaucrats" and that "the reality behind closed doors is a different story" (Irish Independent, March 21).
She forgot to mention, of course, the powerful role of the European Parliament which has equal power with the national governments and crucially operates in public committee and plenary sessions.
