European superstate edges closer to reality

I read with great interest, over the weekend, the various articles regarding the financial deal that was agreed by the various European institutions during the week.
When the citizens of this State had the temerity to reject the Lisbon Treaty, we were made vote again with promises of jobs, economic recovery, and Irish influence in Europe, while all the time the prospect of a European superstate was being dismissed as the stuff of paranoia.
However, now we have French President Nicolas Sarkozy hailing the recent deal as a step toward the formation of a European economic government. Perhaps the time has come for the Irish people to be asked if we want to be part of a European state.
