Eugene's world of puppet magic

IT was lovely to read the letter about the great Eugene Lambert (Letters, February 25) from the founder of the Laurel and Hardy appreciation society.

My late father attended the Laurel and Hardy show in the Olympia and genuflected in the aisle as they came on stage.

One of my fondest memories of Eugene Lambert was of sitting near the front before the panto started and himself and Judge listing off the children in the audience who were celebrating birthdays. The absolute astonishment on their faces at how he knew it was their birthdays!
