Election 'sexism' charge unfounded

William Mongey declares the fact that a female candidate expected "solidarity from another female candidate" in the election to be "sexism" (Letters, March 2).
The fact is that membership of the Dail has been nearly 90pc male and is not about to change much as a result of the election. This is a major issue not just for women but for society.
Irish politics marginalises the talents, interests and perspectives of half of the population. The male population, which comprises nearly 90pc of the Dail, should, therefore, not be complaining about the mere mention of ways of remedying the imbalance in the Dail.
