Elderly suffer as elite untouched

The 'household benefits package' is actually a cost-effective method of saving the State money as it helps to keep frail Irish elderly people warm, wanted and in touch with their friends and the world at large.
It is also an effective, farsighted and compassionate way of enabling many vulnerable pensioners to avoid the misery of chronic ill-health.
A number of petty little skinflints are now suggesting that pensioners be stripped of this sensible and hard-earned concession. No doubt they are afraid to tackle the real problem: the criminal, wanton waste that continues apace at almost every level of our well-insulated, untouchable Irish elite.
