•As a taxpayer in this country, it sickened me to see Bono at the Global Irish Economic Forum expressing patriotic sentiments.
Is this not the man whose band transferred their assets to Holland to avoid paying taxes here? Is this not the man whose taxes from very successful tours would create much-needed jobs for our young people? I realise we are in a bad way at present and need all the help we can get.
Certainly those quotes of "any port in a storm" and "beggars can't be choosers" hold true, but so also does the adage, "rats are first to leave the sinking ship".
