Drive you to drink

•The drink-driving limit is being reduced this Thursday. This means that the law considers that someone with as little as one pint is incapable of driving a car (professional drivers have even lower limits).

Fair enough. However, I read in the papers this weekend that apart from the late Brian Lenihan, our last government conducted much of its business while ensconced in the Dail bar, decisions were made by people who by all accounts had far more than one pint -- decisions which had huge implications for our country.

Our country was driven into a recession which led to unemployment, immigration, despair and even suicides, and was anyone ever charged with being drunk in charge of a country?
