Don't march over people's rights

Speaking to the Northern Assembly at Stormont ('Robinson warning over policing deal', Irish Independent, February 9), First Minister Peter Robinson said he would be "prepared to collapse the Stormont Assembly if Sinn Fein does not honour the landmark agreement on policing and parades".
May I remind Mr Robinson that it is not within the gift of Sinn Fein, the DUP, the Orange Order nor the Irish and British governments to impose sectarian parades and marches on local communities that are opposed to them.
It is however within their gift to ensure that communities in the North are not subjected to persistent triumphalist marches from sectarian organisations.
