Don't forget the other beagles

Regarding Anita Guidera's article (Irish Independent, November 1) on the killing of a beagle by an Irishman, is the Irish public not aware of how many beagles are killed annually in laboratories across Europe in the name of vivisection?

Beagles are chosen for such testing, simply because they have docile personalities. In the UK, thousands of beagles are confined to cages, enduring extremely severe vivisection experiments, gassed, poisoned, burned and cut open without anaesthetic.

The death of one particular beagle becomes a news story, but the mass killing of beagles for the testing of domestic household products is forgotten.
