Doing business off the books
Sir -- In reply to Ian Whelan, (Sunday Independent, March 20, 2011) re claiming benefits whilst working. I for one do not condone this practice but if those people who pay for services provided by handymen, musicians, accountants, gardeners, taxi drivers, bar workers, childminders, farm hands, doormen, solicitors, and on and on, were willing to do business with tax compliant/Vat registered people, the problem would not exist. Maybe re-assessing the laws for the self-employed would be a better way to move forward.
