•Your health correspondent's article on the GP who demanded jewellery from the mother of a patient (Irish Independent, November 29) deserves further clarification.
No medals for discovering that the unnamed doctor did not observe best practice. But it is a pity that we got no hint of what best practice would be in such circumstances.
Maybe best practice is sufficiently vague, leaving room for on-the-spot judgment, and works most of the time until someone takes umbrage.
