Dangers of 'dual carriageway'

Sir -- I think it only fair to warn all unsuspecting users of the possible dangers of the present N4 Dromod/Rooskey Bypass. This inadequate roadway is called a "dual carriageway".
Such a title is misleading as we all have certain expectations of "a dual carriageway". It is far too narrow and has no hard shoulder -- which all of us regard as a vital safety net in emergencies.
Cycle organisations describe the wire-rope barrier down the middle as the equivalent of a cheese-cutter and say that such cheap barriers are outlawed in most of Europe. The potential for mayhem, in icy or in foggy conditions, is enormous.
