Cyclists ignore cycle lanes
Sir -- Disgraceful footpath cycling all over our city is like a cancer. It fully appears that if you own a bike, you can violate any traffic laws that you like, including ignoring cycle lanes.
We badly need an association here like London Living Streets -- which speaks up for all pedestrians. It says, "The proper place for two wheels is on the side of the road," which I fully agree with. Footpath cycling is intimidatory; it is obstructive; it is a hazard to pedestrians -- particularly the old and infirm and young children. It is supposed to be illegal to cycle on paths on which there are no cycle lanes.
The article by Emer O'Kelly (Sunday Independent, September 12, 2010), confirms the fact that cyclists ignore all traffic rules blatantly.
