Cuts must begin closer to home
If the Government is looking for places to start shaving €15bn, they should just look at their own rules first and see how much 'over-regulation' is costing the country.
In the last few months in my own area I've seen perfectly good footpaths ripped up and replaced with paving stones that dislodged a few weeks after they were laid. The council then painted a "walkway" on another part of the footpath.
Last week, I saw four contract workers using strimmers to cut about 600 metres of verges that a tractor and hedge cutter could have done in 20 minutes, along with the bushes that are still obscuring the speed limit signs.
