Cuts hurt our young

Madam -- In December 2011 my son was conferred with a BA at UCD. Like so many others, there were no jobs available to him so he applied for the Jobseekers' Allowance and was granted a reduced amount as he was living at home.
(This young man worked evenings all through college until the company he was working for closed down.) Being unemployed was not to his liking so he decided to do a four-week intensive Teaching English as a Foreign Language course to improve his job prospects.
He mentioned this when he went to his Fas interview and was told it probably would not effect his weekly money. He then went to the social welfare office in Dun Laoghaire, told them his intention, and was instructed to bring a letter from the college confirming his enrolment on the four-week course.
