Cruelty in China's zoos
After watching a documentary on Sky News on May 22 about to China's shocking and disturbing levels of animal cruelty I felt compelled to express my disgust at China's inexcusable ignorance of animal rights.
To mention a few examples: a live cow being dumped into a ring of tigers to be devoured (still bellowing in pain 10mins after being set upon), bears made juggle with fire, monkeys tied to cars and taunted with food, animals enclosed in tiny cages (suffering from what the vets described as "zoocosis"), for the sick enjoyment of what can only be described as perverted onlookers. Chinese visitors can buy live cows for £100 and chickens for £2 to feed to the tigers.
Chinese families view it as a fun day out. The zoos in China are nothing more than insane asylums for animals and a national disgrace. It is interesting that the wildlife centre refused to answer Sky News's question about why they felt they needed to inflict such cruelty upon the animals, admitting their own beastly treatment of them.
