Cowen should be able to act

AS the current debacle surrounding Ivor Callely rolls on and the silence from leaders is deafening, surely consideration must be given to the following: Mr Callely was appointed to the Seanad by the Taoiseach of the day and, as such, remains there as a Taoiseach's nominee regardless of the change from Bertie Ahern to Brian Cowen.

Mr Cowen must have the power to deal with this matter.

If the Taoiseach's nominees can be selected, surely there must be some mechanism to allow for a reverse procedure.
