Cowen needs to follow de Valera
THE present national emergency calls to mind previous emergencies when the country faced disaster. These were the Anglo-Irish War of 1919-21, the Anglo-Irish Economic War of the 1930s, and the Emergency during WWII. Firm leadership by Eamon de Valera brought our country through those terrible times.
He communicated with the people as leader and the opposition parties felt obliged to follow. I believe that Taoiseach Brian Cowen has within himself the necessary qualities to do what Eamon de Valera did. His party must support their leader, as de Valera was supported; otherwise we face chaos.
