Councillors paid more to represent less
THE investigation carried out by reporters Fiach Kelly and Edel Kennedy into the issue of councillors' expenses makes for riveting reading (Irish Independent, August 3 and 4).
The article prompted me to do a little research.
In addition to the 883 city and county councillors, I discovered that their contemporaries in the town councils number 666. In addition to this we have 60 borough councillors. Add in 166 TDs and 60 senators and this gives us a grand total of 1,835 paid politicians.
