Cooper wasn't first to floor Ali
Sir -- In your obituary of boxer Henry Cooper (Sunday Independent, May 8) you credited him as being the first opponent to floor Muhammad Ali (Cassius Clay). However, I believe this honour belongs to a fighter called Lucien 'Sonny' Banks who floored him in the first round of their fight on February 10, 1962 in New York.
It was Clay and Ali's 11th professional outing. Video clips of the fight can be found on youtube.com. Banks died in 1965 following a ninth-round defeat in a bout in Philadelphia.
