Clash between toll road and rail
The new Dunboyne rail line officially opens today. While this is great news, I can't help but think that the southern toll plaza on the recently opened M3 motorway is in the wrong place.
This new park-and-ride facility is going to be the largest of its kind in the country. A great way to promote its use would be to offer the rail line as an alternative to paying the motorway toll.
The idea behind the park-and-ride is to remove a large number of vehicles from a very congested commuter route. However, I fear the placement of the toll before this park-and-ride will lead many people to take the attitude, 'I paid for the road, I'm going to use it!'
