Clarification on hospital charges

I would like to clarify a number of points with regard to your article yesterday on the notification of bed charges to six patients and/or their families at Beaumont Hospital.
At Beaumont we believe the term "bed blockers" is highly disrespectful to patients. Your use of this phrase in quotation marks, therefore, is misleading to readers and I would ask you to refrain from using it when discussing the issue of delayed discharges in connection with Beaumont. You also refer to patients "refusing to leave" the hospital. This is not the issue.
Under the Nursing Home State Support Scheme (Fair Deal) legislation, which came into effect last October, all acute hospitals are required to impose a daily charge in respect of patients fit for discharge to a nursing home but who have not submitted a completed application form to the HSE within 15 working days.
