• There has been a marked trepidation displayed by the media in praising the Irish people and, vicariously, Taoiseach Enda Kenny on our recent victory in Germany.
We would do well to remember the humorous colloquialism that it is a short distance between a clap on the back and a kick in the rear. Self-praise is no praise, and we are certainly not German -- so well done us!

• A German magazine may have presented Enda Kenny with the European of the Year award, but I can assure you the only award he would have received from the Irish people would have been "Your a pain" man of the year.
