•Put simply, if people stop buying and selling we have no economy or revenue for the Government.
Signs that we are coming close to this are Christmas shops opening in August before pre-Budget rumours destroy discretionary spending, together with appeals from workers and business owners alike that we are getting too close to the bone. An obsession to find cuts needs to be tempered with reality.
Perhaps if government ministers went on a walkabout and met shoppers, workers and business owners, they might find a better balance, for all our sakes.
