Childcare is much more than babysitting, workers need help too
Recently the Government announced plans to help alleviate the cost of childcare for working parents. A means-tested subsidy would be put in place to help ease the burden of childcare with a portion of the family's fee paid directly to the childcare providers. This can be seen as a welcome move for parents who struggle with childcare costs.
However, again we find absolutely no mention of the invisible workforce who make such childcare services possible; the early-years educators themselves.
These are the people who, for very little pay, put in a challenging day juggling the needs of small children. Ask any parent and they will tell you that this is a tough gig.
