Charity a sacred cow to the media

Sir -- I was interested to read in your paper a piece concerning the Red Cross's non-payment of a "single cent" of the e1.4m up to that point donated for the people affected by the floods in Ballinasloe and the west of Ireland before Christmas (Daniel McConnell, Sunday Independent, February 28, 2010).
There appears to be a politically correct or sacred cow status given to such organisations by some arms of the Irish media. This seems to discourage the questioning of the operation of these multimillion-euro organisations.
