Care of vulnerable defines civilisation

Madam – I have sat on the cosy fence for long enough, but my conscience has eventually kicked in. I have now found an enemy bigger than my apathy.

We as a society will fall into the deepest depths of immorality if we sit back and allow this Government to push ahead reducing the respite carer's grant. This is one of the most vulnerable elements of our society. There has to be another way.

Last week in Dunnes Stores, a very elderly stooped lady shuffled past me holding on to the hand of her middle-aged Down Syndrome son. This is who the Government is taking the funds from. How can we sleep at night if we allow this to push ahead?
