Carbon credits plan is nonsense

It was with bewilderment that I listened to the RTE news last Friday about what science boffins working for the EU had to say about Ireland's carbon dioxide emissions.

They stated that Ireland was not going to meet its targets and would have to purchase additional carbon credits to pay for not reaching these targets.

What? Did I hear them correctly? A country that is shedding jobs at the highest rate in its history, a country that has little or no industry to speak of, and a country that has one of the lowest population densities in Europe is not going to meet its targets?
