Campaign for soldiers of World War Two
MY wife and I were visiting Ireland last week when I ran across an article in the Irish Independent about the 5,983 Irish soldiers who had been "court- martialled" for fighting against the Nazis and Japan during World War Two. These soldiers were considered to have deserted their post.
However, I also learnt there are many questions about the manner in which the entire matter was handled. I am not writing to be critical of your country or Government. I am writing to let you know that I hope to see these heroes of Ireland pardoned and that I am doing all that I can to bring this matter to the attention of the American people. It is my prayer that the Irish Government reconsider this entire matter and pardon each and every soldier who put their lives in harm's way -- and in some cases gave their lives for the good of all mankind.
