Bygone traditions

• Trends change swiftly with technology. Young people have always followed new trends, hence the huge popularity of Facebook, Twitter and other social media.

This Christmas, technology played its part, too, with many texting their greetings to friends rather than sending cards or phone calls. All this is fine and possibly very acceptable among a younger generation.

In the case of the elderly, however, texting lacks the personal touch and the Christian spirit to which they are so accustomed.

The elderly are scarce on the ground in most homes and at Christmas there is nothing they cherish more from their loved ones than a nice card with greetings of love and affection, followed up by a phone call.

Just a small sacrifice for a big return!
