Bunga bunga bye

•As Italy plunges into financial meltdown, due in no small part to Silvio Berlusconi's lack of leadership over austerity measures, characterised by a recent bout of fisticuffs in the Italian parliament, the Milanese Crooner has recorded a CD of love songs with restaurant chanteur and former car park attendant (I kid you not) Mariano Apicella. No wonder solving Italy's economic woes took second place.

As a frequent visitor to Italy and with many Italian friends, it has been so sad to see the demoralising effect that the Berlusconi era has had on this proud country. Ordinary Italians sono stufi (are fed up) with Berlusconi's pathetic attempts to cling to power (despite his coalition government having lost 94 different votes in the Italian parliament), while his misogynistic and ignorant pronouncements, allied to his increasingly erratic and pompous behaviour, have brought ridicule to the Italy that people love and cherish.

This not so holy Milanese Emperor even had a law enacted (mercifully overturned by the Italian courts) that granted him immunity from prosecution while still in office!
