British violence in name of state

Paul Kelly states that the queen of England will apologise for Bloody Sunday on the same day that Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness apologise for the killing of Earl Mountbatten (Letters, June 19).

I have to wonder at this childish and downright disrespectful and trite remark.

How exactly does he equate the mass murder of Irish citizens by forces of the British state with the actions of illegal, underground forces opposed to British military presence in the North?
