British failure led to 1916 Rising

Kevin Myers describes the Easter Rising of 1916 as "nauseating" (Irish Independent, April 6), while Niall Ginty asserts that "the facts (about 1916) are radically different from the garbage that passes for historical perspective in classrooms" (Letters, April 9).

Dick Keane, meanwhile, asserts that it was "a grubby attempt to force Britain to force Unionists into all-Ireland home rule" (Letters, April 9).

None of these statements attempts to elucidate the so-called facts.
