Bring criminal charges against bishops

Friday December 18 2009
CAN someone please explain how it is possible to 'resign' from a (alleged) paedophilia cover-up?
Is this a long-dormant, undiscovered loophole in Irish law? If I murdered a colleague at work, could I stymie murder charges simply by tendering my resignation? No?
Then please, someone explain to me why Bishop Donal Murray has not been charged with a crime?

SO Bishop Murray has finally resigned, with others to follow (Irish Independent, December 17).
Will he and his other partners in wrongdoing now face the full rigours of the law?
Internal Vatican sanction is not enough. As a republic we should be indifferent to the laws of the Roman enclave.
These men are accessories to the worst systematic breach of human rights within any peacetime European state.
They should be prosecuted for the equally heinous crime of obstructing justice.
I am aware of no inclination on the part of the DPP to do so.
Therefore, we appear to remain a grubby, obsequious and craven shambles of a nation, with no real idea of what being a republic actually means.

CATHOLICISM, even to the atheist-thinking man or women, is a laudable religion.
Even if one does not believe in Catholicism, Christianity is a great yardstick by which to rule your life, a great blueprint for living.
In this beautiful Christmas season let us remind ourselves what the season is all about.
Jesus talked of tolerance, forgiveness, love, kindness concern for others, protection of the weak, fairness and understanding, and doing unto others what we would like to be done to ourselves.
Jesus was not just a talker, he walked the walk and he lived what he preached.
We should celebrate with great joy at Christmastime the love and great mercy that Jesus has for each of us.
If we follow his blueprint for living, his values, we will truly find peace on earth and contentment in our lives. He is the greatest. Merry Christmas.
