Brady coverage is hypocritical

Sir -- The wave of outrage directed at Cardinal Brady is certainly impressive in its intensity, but one can be forgiven for seriously doubting its sincerity. Indeed, in many ways it is deeply hypocritical and most definitely selective.
To explain. A number of years ago the prestigious BBC Panorama programme unearthed a horrific history of sexual abuse carried out on the most vulnerable of children in Africa. The abuse was perpetrated by employees of the UN Human Rights Commission. The Commissioner at the time was one Mary Robinson, a doyen of the liberal/feminist/ media establishment in Ireland and elsewhere.
Under no circumstances was it suggested that Mrs Robinson was in any way party to the abuse. Nevertheless UN Human Rights Commissioners don't come cheap (they are considerably more high maintenance than RC bishops, for example), and the buck has to stop somewhere.
