Borrowing to fund pet project

Sir -- I read with interest Maeve Sheehan's article on Mary Robinson. Maeve is incorrect in stating that Mrs Robinson left the presidency before finishing her second term. Mrs Robinson jumped ship for a more prestigious job at the United Nations before she even completed one term in office. She served from December 3, 1990 to September 12, 1997 (6 years 9 months)
The Dail voted to give her a full pension, which Maeve pointed out amounted to €154,000 last year. Nice work if you can get it. If a civil servant retired with 39 years of service he/she would receive 39/40ths of their pension. That kind of treatment is, of course, not applicable to politicians.
I see Mrs Robinson has a new organisation, the "Mary Robinson Foundation -- Climate Justice". This organisation will receive €800,000 through Irish Aid next year. Is it not time to stop this complete waste of taxpayers' money? Give the money over to some deserving Irish causes.
