Borrowing a little from the Germans

THE impending public service cuts can be used as an opportunity to reinvent public service administration in Ireland.
The Irish Government should look to the likes of Germany, which has an interesting ‘conscription’- style system for some emergency medical and disaster relief public services.
This system places German school/college graduates into positions (with training) within areas such as the fire service, paramedic response units, etc, for a limited period of up to 2 years.
