Bonus truths

• I think that some of your readers will have been surprised at the "lavish" bonuses received by some staff in Irish universities. You mention an "astonishing" top-up of €430,000 to an unidentified academic consultant in Trinity College Dublin.

I'm not sure who this was, but I can guess, and I think it is worth reassuring your readers that they need not fear them being paid "over the odds" in Ireland any more.

The academic in question is hugely respected and had an international academic and organisational reputation such that he's been recruited to a leading university medical school outside of Ireland.
