Blatter’s babble on gay football fans

SEPP Blatter recently suggested that gay football fans should practise chastity if they attend the World Cup in Qatar to support their team.
Mr Blatter remains conspicuously silent on the fate of gay soccer players who might also find themselves in Qatar for the tournament. It is likely that dozens of gay men will participate in the World Cup keeping secret about their sexuality. This secrecy is not confined to Qatar but exists in every professional league in the world.
As FIFA president, Mr Blatter must show some positive leadership. His joking comment shows that he isn't even capable of decorum on the issue. The decision to award Qatar the World Cup illustrates FIFA's ability to totally ignore the interests of gay footballers and fans. We simply do not exist to them.
