Bishops . . . Bloody Sunday . . . Anglo . . . Dunphy

Could someone please remind the Irish Catholic bishops that they no longer exercise the power they once did in this country? Their selfish and prejudiced efforts to dilute the Civil Partnership Bill (Irish Independent, June 17), effectively denying equality to Irish citizens, are reprehensible. The people of this country should not have to take lectures on sexuality and relationships from a group of ageing celibates who were bereft of sufficient moral courage when it was needed most.

Stay out of it.
