Bishop guilty of manipulation
NIALL CARROLL (Letters, May 19) attacked Teresa Kelly for accusing Bishop Colm O'Reilly of "manipulation" for asking children to donate some of their confirmation money to his cathedral.
If the bishop had suggested that the children consider using some of their money for good causes, that might have been appropriate. But when the figure of authority on the day uses his position to advertise his own pet projects to children, that must be manipulation.
Maybe the children could give some of the money to their schools to make up for the reductions in funding that have led to demands for cash from the Catholic Primary School Management Association.
