Big switch off

Charlie Weston's very frightening report (Irish Independent, February 23) regarding the numbers now unable to meet basic electricity charges tells us that the ESB is currently disconnecting 200 families a month for non-payment of bills. By way of mitigation, a spokesperson for the company insisted it had "a lower level of disconnections than Bord Gais and Airtricity" So that's what those who advocate "privatisation" mean when they talk about competition!

Will the Government tell us how those who cannot afford electricity could afford extra taxes such as the household charge, water charges; etc?
