Betrayed again

• The headline on Tuesday's paper -- 'No one knows the rules in TDs' expenses farce' -- provokes me to respond: Yes, they do, because there is a very simple rule of thumb to be applied.

A TD, or any public representative, simply has to ask themselves, 'Whose side am I on?' and the answer has to be, on the side of those who elected me. It follows that any misuse of expenses is a betrayal of the trust placed in the public representative by the electorate.

Betrayal of trust -- where have we heard that before? It usually merits an outcry of rage from those self-same public representatives. How come they are all so quiet now? Could it be that they are all in it together?
