Being a stay-at-home mum far from boring
I have never written to a newspaper but I was incredibly disappointed with the tone of Oonagh Montague's article in last Saturday's 'weekend' magazine supplement.
As a young stay-at-home mother, I felt that the headline was condescending, derogatory and inappropriate. The author's difficulty did not stem from the "boredom of motherhood" but from a prolonged battle with post-natal depression, which was left undiagnosed for nearly four years.
In Ireland today, so many young parents don't have the luxury to stay at home with their children and others are made to feel inadequate when they do, due to attitudes like the one portrayed in the article.
