Bearing witness to the Irish wasteland

HAVING spent Christmas in Co Donegal I am not at all surprised to hear that unemployment has reached 14pc.
I went on a trip with my dad, a former fisherman, along the coast to a funeral and not only were we attending a funeral, we were also travelling through a county that is dead.
Each harbour we visited, once full of fleets of fishing boats, was more or less empty. Co-ops that once thrived were closed, as were businesses that relied on them.
