Battle of Britain article scurrilous
As an Englishman living in Ireland for 11 years, I felt compelled to respond to Kevin Myers' article ('The Battle of Britain has become a toxic mythology', Irish Independent, September 23) in which he poured scorn on the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.
Be in little doubt that the bravery and subsequent victory by RAF fighter command pilots and ground crew had a direct impact on the war. One can argue as to Hitler's true intentions, but few can argue against the claim that he fully intended to invade and occupy Britain, as he had done throughout much of Europe.
I have watched much of the recent BBC coverage and indeed of other UK satellite channels; most, if not all, has been thoughtfully, fairly and factually presented and, as the UK's national broadcaster, I would expect nothing less of the BBC.
