Axe Treatment Purchase Fund

The Budget has again attacked our public health service and has reduced spending by €746m. Our hospitals are reducing services to stay within a reducing budget which only results in longer waiting lists for patients.
Surprisingly, the National Treatment Purchase Fund budget has only been reduced by 5pc from €90m to €85m. It is nice to know that the private hospitals built by investors to offset tax will still have this fund to remain viable while public hospitals have budgets slashed.
My waiting list for surgery over the past years has incr-eased from weeks to months and is now heading to years. How can the private health sector always manage to avoid the cuts that the public hospitals are powerless to avoid? The NTPF is no longer sustainable, it must be axed and the funding put into public hospitals.
