Ashmawy suspension says a lot about RTE

I read with interest, curiosity and one eyebrow raised the article in Saturday's Irish Independent regarding Baz Ashmawy's suspension from work for a month without pay by RTE for alleged drink driving.

Maybe I missed the times when Gerry Ryan was suspended without pay for a month -- or maybe I didn't because they never happened in the first place. It seems to me Ashmawy is paying the price for RTE finally finding a conscience.

Even Gerry would have found the whole Baz situation ludicrous and would have commented on it in one of his shows. I can hear his voice now: "Ah, come on lads, you must be joking."
