Arnold column was unfair to RTE

Bruce Arnold's column last Saturday (November 13) attacked RTE on a variety of fronts. However, the principal grievance appeared to be that Mr Arnold has not been invited sufficiently often to appear on programmes in recent years.

Mr Arnold's frustration may be understandable. But it is regrettable that he should express it via aggressive assertions that are unfair to RTE and unfounded. He states as if it is a matter of fact that he was "blacked" and banned from appearing on RTE programmes.

Mr Arnold was not so treated, and never has been. RTE does not take such positions in respect of contributors. Mr Arnold's claims betray, among other things, a fundamental misunderstanding of the pro-cesses involved in RTE's engagement on countless subjects and issues across a myriad programmes through hundreds of highly autonomous programme teams. They do him no credit.
