Army brass lacks true leadership

Sir -- I am a former member of the Defence Forces having served for 32 years. I was an NCO (now retired) and I find it very interesting than an NCO serving has felt concerned enough to write to you (Sunday Independent, October 9, 2011), and I would wish this Government would take notice.
This NCO starts his letter referring to the late Dermot Early and his great leadership qualities. All serving and retired Army personnel would fully agree with this viewpoint.
As I am no longer a serving Army member I can give my view freely. Yes, as the NCO states, morale in the defence forces is not great just now. The question that has to be asked is where is the leadership?
